ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

External Communications:

  • Write, edit and develop external communication materials including press releases, articles, spokesperson talking points and press kits designed to raise awareness and promote a favorable perception of the company’s reputation with external audiences including customers, stakeholders and media.
  • Respond to incoming media inquiries and proactively pitch targeted reporters.
  • Serve as a back-up media relations spokesperson for the company.
  • Draft messaging and meeting/interview prep materials for key executives.
  • Develop relationships with national, regional and trade media contacts.
  • Monitor media coverage across trade, business and consumer outlets and stay well-informed on industry developments, trends and shifts.

Internal Communications:

  • Provide communication advice and counsel to internal clients regarding critical business issues and opportunities that require strategic communications solutions.
  • Write, edit and develop communication materials in support of team member communications designed to promote company mission, values, standards, strategic initiatives, business objectives, and other critical information with team members at all levels.
  • Manage the sharing and distribution of corporate communications on multiple channels, including but not limited to email, newsletters and company intranet.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 5-7 years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, media relations or related experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field
  • Experience managing crisis communications and media relations on behalf of a public company and/or a financial institution.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with an understanding of news, feature and online writing styles.
  • Presentation and public relations skills to support company leaders as they communicate and persuade a wide range of audiences.
  • Interpersonal skills to relate with staff at all levels throughout the company to remain aware of potentially newsworthy developments.
  • Working knowledge of AP journalistic style standards.
  • Working knowledge of public relations and corporate communication principles and practices.
  • Ability to manage time and effectively prioritize and balance multiple initiatives.

Summary

The Corporate Communications Specialist develops communications materials that are designed to create and maintain positive engagements with internal and external stakeholders and oversees the sharing and distribution of communications through multiple channels. This position will report to the Vice President of Corporate Communications and will collaborate regularly with senior leaders and spokespeople, partners and agencies. Ideal candidate is a highly motivated, experienced writer and communicator who has an eye for detail and a passion for writing and media relations. Experience communicating on behalf of a public company and/or financial institution and experience working with PR agencies are a plus.
