Responsible for managing and leading the Underwriting team to achieve maximum productivity and accuracy and meet the Company’s production & quality goals within assigned area(s). Implement training and monitor and maintain compliance with all underwriting policies and procedures within federal, state, local and corporate regulations. Work under limited supervision and report to the AVP of Underwriting.
- Adhere to general work requirements
- Oversee a team of Team Leads and Underwriters and their responsibilities, including but not limited to the verification of all documentation and calculations, property & appraisal reviews
- Remain current on funding and/or secondary market investor requirements and pricing policies and ensure compliance
- Manage underwriter quality and productivity and provide direction and/or training as needed
- Participate in and recommend signing authorities for the underwriters within the center
- Manage and provide day-to-day support for second signatures, declination re submissions.
- Coordinates with Site Risk Directors for any necessary responses to QA, QC or Agency quality responses and associated trending that results in improvement and training
- Share responsibility for the overall loan quality and data integrity on all loans and oversee prefunding quality control results within the team
- Measure and monitor customer service expectations for credit team members specific to company standards for communication and associated policies
- Responsible for the training, coaching and supervision for all underwriters specific to the team and associated interpretation and application of all company and agency policies and procedures
- Track and monitor underwriting metrics including error ratios, quality scores, headcount, customer service communication and all required service level agreements
- Review trended underwriter data and provide necessary action plan recommendations to the AVP to improve team and center results associated specifically with loan decision and data quality
- Provide a consistent approach to new hire training of underwriters
- Responsible for the interviewing, hiring (with partnership of Team Management and Credit Risk Management) and complete on-boarding process of all credit related team members and manage and mentor personnel
- Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with onsite Team and Site Management, Credit Risk and Sales
- Work with other team members to maintain efficient document flow
- Ensure compliance with federal, state and investor regulations/requirements
- Perform other duties as assigned
Core Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience
- 7+ years in the mortgage industry with experience in centralized and decentralized operations and underwriting models
- Working knowledge of Non-Delegated Correspondent processes
- Experience with FNMA/FHLMC/FHA/VA/USDA products
- Experience in product and credit risk management analysis
- Senior level underwriting experience in government and conventional lending.
