Your team. Flash Manufacturing is a new fulfillment process using a state of the art workflow system, BOSS Director.  We are pushing the boundaries of the mortgage industry and challenging the way our company thinks and behaves. We are reimagining data integration, workflow prioritization, task specialization and workforce optimization to drive down cycle times while delighting our customers.

Role Overview

Team Learning and Culture: This role makes Mr. Cooper more efficient by innovating from the front lines through to funding. Team members will continually iterate to improve our processes, quality and automation, while strengthening our understanding of customers as well as sales, fulfillment, and funding to build deeper relationships and improved quality. Team members share knowledge, raise ideas and support peers.

Management and Operations: You are responsible for the overall leadership, management and direction for a team of Flash Underwriters completing underwriting and task based work within Flash Manufacturing.  You will have direct responsibility for 8 - 12 employees with multiple skill levels (Associate Underwriter, Underwriter I and Underwriter II)

Key Responsibilities

No day will be the same, but some key responsibilities include:

  • Strong leadership for the team ensuring that staff understands their role and have the tools, skills and knowledge to do quality work.
  • Manages staff tasks for optimum quality and cycle time.  Continuous coaching to improve the process is a must.
  • Coordinates with Sr. Underwriting Manager or AVP Underwriting to ensure team goals and objectives are met.
  • Identify and resolve problems where bottlenecks occur.
  • Be well versed and knowledgeable of all FLASH workflow process and policies & procedures. 
  • Work closely with leadership and IT to enhance the workflow for optimal efficiency.
  • Key point of contact for team escalations and front line questions from the staff.
  • Maintains and manages strict compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations. 
  • Achieve all assigned Performance Standards to include loan quality, productivity, turn times and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide training and assistance to Underwriters to assist with performance improvement and developmental opportunities.
  • Constantly learn and improve from established feedback loop routines to complete underwriting correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Demonstrated grown in a past role that challenged you to learn new behaviors and/or acquire new skills
  • Graduation from a 4-year college or university with major course work in a discipline related to the requirements of this position.  Will consider the equivalent combination of job experience and education that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • 3+ years’ experience in mortgage underwriting   
  • At least 2 years of experience managing teams.
  • Ability to underwrite loans at a national level and in all markets.
  • FHA - Direct Endorsement (DE) designation required
  • VA – Lender Appraisal Processing Program (LAPP) and/or Staff Appraisal Reviewer (SAR) designation(s) preferred.
  • Experience with Desktop Underwriter (DU) or comparable automated underwriting system required.
  • Must have an in-depth understanding of Mortgage Originations systems.
  • Advanced analysis skills in the areas of credit, layered risk, and income
  • Excellent computer skills required including proficiency with originations systems and Microsoft Office products.  Encompass experience is a plus.
  • Ability to pass a background check, credit check and drug screening.
  • Applicants must be willing to work a flexible schedule with the possibility of overtime and weekend rotations.
