THE ROLE

The Principal, Learning has a passion for training and developing others and thrives in a fast paced, dynamic environment. This enterprise-wide influencer leads efforts to support the company vision, mission, and values through designs, plans, and implementation of effective corporate training curriculum, policies, and procedures. Researches new training techniques and suggests enhancements to existing training programs. Contracts with vendors for employee participation in outside training programs.

Leads and develops reinforcement learning and the assessment of learning needs, development of learning interventions, and implementation / facilitation of appropriate solutions as well as oversight of learning program management. Applies expertise in coaching, performance management, front-line leadership development training, and instructional design to support the current needs of the organization as well as building employee improvement.

Evaluates and supports the creation and development of strategic learning solutions.  Consults with business partners to develop action plans to close human performance gaps and drives execution leading to positive impact on business results. Leads proactive identification of development needs, definition of learning requirements, and creation of learning paths.

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Other duties may be assigned. Directly or through others, the incumbent will:

  • Collaborates with the management team to identify strategic and tactical training needs and solutions for the business.  This includes but is not limited to new hire training, ad hoc department specific training, certification programs as needed, and compliance training for the business unit.
  • Manages medium and large-scale projects from inception to completion.
  • Reviews data, summarizes key findings, recommends next steps, and reports results back to the business/leadership team.
  • Monitors, tracks, and reports on employee performance, quality of programs, effectiveness of the training, and the overall delivery of training programs and certification programs. 
  • Identifies, assesses, tracks and mitigates issues and risks at multiple levels.
  • Acts as a Team Lead to assist others before escalation to Manager.
  • Utilizes digital tools and technology including Learning Experience platforms to produce innovative and effective solutions and seeking opportunities to leverage digital approaches across a range of existing and new learning programs.
  • Builds internal digital learning and curation capability through events, advice, tools and resources, and learning – target audience of both learning professionals and SMEs.
  • Keeps abreast of new learning technologies, current trends, best practices, and emerging innovations in the learning and development sphere and implements digital solutions that develop talent.
  • Breakdown of the role: Design/Development (30%); Facilitation (50%); Analysis/Other (20%)

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Strong facilitation, instructional design and consultation skills with demonstrated application of ADDIE and/or other agile instructional design model, learning measurement, learning management systems, and organizational development strategies
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills to be able to quickly assess problem situations and provide solutions in a timely manner to minimize any impact to the learning experience
  • Experience leading large scale, enterprise-wide projects/initiatives
  • Ability to consult and effectively communicate with different levels of leadership and design/create/deliver dynamic content that incorporates engaging design elements and effective learning principles for an optimum learning experience
  • Proven ability to continually adapt and learn new procedures, technology, and lines of business


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in related area
  • 7+ years experience in a mortgage or financial services company; minimum 3 years training experience to include development of training curriculum as well as facilitation of training; and management experience
  • Advanced level of proficiency with consulting skills, project management skills, and process improvement skills
  • Certifications – ATD Master eLearning/Instructional Designer, ATD Articulate Storyline or similar preferred
