The OQC Underwriter is responsible for analyzing financial and credit information to ensure that the initial underwriting findings / decisions and associated conditions meet internal underwriting standards, investor guidelines, and federal regulations.

Compile, analyze, and document loan data and credit risk associated with the borrower and property serving as security for the proposed mortgage.

Responsible for providing clear and accurate communication to NDC team members, management, sales and customers (as needed) regarding the findings of the audit review and the file documentation / required conditions / stipulations needed.

Provide feedback and training to the frontline Underwriters to assist with performance improvement and developmental opportunities.

Achieve all assigned Performance Standards to include loan quality, productivity, turn times and customer satisfaction.

Follow all applicable NDC processes & procedures.

Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

What level of education or specialized training is required to perform the job?

  • Graduation from a 4-years college or university with major course work in a discipline related to the requirements of the position.  Will consider the equivalent combination of job experience and education that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Knowledge of Fannie, Freddie, FHA & VA Mortgage Underwriting Guidelines
  • Possess an in-depth understanding of Encompass LOS or other Mortgage Originations systems.

List any special certifications, licenses, and/or knowledge requirements for this job:

  • Advanced analysis skills in the areas of credit, layered risk, and income.
  • Ability to underwrite loans at a national level and in all markets.
  • FHA - Direct Endorsement (DE) designation preferred.
  • Experience with Desktop Underwriter (DU) or comparable automated underwriting system required.
  • Basic computer skills required.  Experience with word processing beneficial.

How many years of directly related job experience are required to be qualified to enter the job?

  • Minimum of 2+ year’s mortgage credit underwriting / mortgage underwriting quality control experience.  Three (3) to five (5) years experience in mortgage underwriting / mortgage underwriting quality control preferred.

Summary

The Sr Operational QC Auditor / Underwriter is responsible for re-underwriting NDC loan files that have been selected for audit/review. The scope of the audit review is to identify any “material” issues with the loan (identification of underwriting issues that could lead to material defect finds as well as invalid conditions or “over conditioning”) and communicate the results of the audit review back to the line of Business / front-line Underwriter. The purpose is to ensure each file reviewed is of quality in accordance with the internal and external requirements.
