Job Summary:

The Sr. Principal Data Architect position plays a key role in visualizing and designing an organization's enterprise data management framework. This framework describes the processes used to plan, specify, enable, create, acquire, maintain, use, archive, retrieve, control, and purge data. This role will as also provide team leadership skills in owning, controlling, critiquing, and modifying appropriately existing models and in creating new data models that are central to Enterprise level data consumption.

The Data Architect will participate in all IT and Business-related discussions in understanding the data generation (upstream) and data consumption (downstream). 

The Data Architect is critical to driving the strategic value in laying strong foundational models, providing clear directional path to Data Integration (API/ETL) teams when they develop solutions; in helping Database Administrators (DBA) in ease of maintenance and in operations such as loading and extracting data into those; and in contributing to high quality deliverables.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • System database design for in-house applications

  • Collaborate with application Solution Architects on data related solutions

  • Be able to understand and have knowledge of the new non-traditional BIG Data handling platforms (Databricks, Kafka, Synapse) & NO-SQL data stores (Mongo, Cosmos…etc)

  • Be able to understand current (existing) data models, document changes and modify as needed.

  • Be able to create new data models after due participation with IT or Business partners on requirements and final business goals.

  • Document purpose and driver behind each of the data models.

  • Document logical, physical models complete with business definitions and glossaries into central metadata repository such as IRWIN/Talend Data Catalog Metadata Management tool.

  • Maintain the data dictionary, business data glossary, naming conventions, standards and abbreviations and their intended meanings in a central repository

  • Maintain clear versioned copies of central repository of data models

  • Participate in all Business and IT discussions related to data sourcing, mapping and data consumption and translate those into data models

  • Consult, discussion with business partners, peer Data Architects, Engineers in understanding the requirements, setting and managing expectations in relation to deliverables

  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects.

  • Understand technical scope and objectives of each of the projects.

  • Take direction from Architecture team in modeling and from DBAs in physical model generation

  • Advice on best practices in terms of modeling, use of indexes, semantic views

  • Come up with innovative models using industry, technology establish best methodologies (Inmon, Kimball and hybrids)

  • Be able to simplify complex sources into simplified consumable models – E.g., Multi-Systems of Record data (multi-SOR) to single Data warehouse

  • Be able to provide best approaches to data storage in terms of achieving separable Business data vs non-business data (Natural keys vs Surrogate keys)

  • Be able to participate in Business discussion and prepare initial source-to-target mappings

  • Have working knowledge in Agile environments and adopt to multiple itineraries running in concurrency

Core Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a closely related field (foreign equivalent acceptable)

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience as a System Database design, Data Modeling, Data warehouse & data mart design and/or developer

  • Senior level knowledge in Core Competencies: Hands-on experience in designing data models, Datawarehouse & data marts alongside development knowledge

  • Have deep knowledge of data architectures, ODSs (Operational Data Stores), Data warehouses for both traditional (RDBMs) & non-traditional databases (No-SQL) alongside other data stores like Data Lakes

  • Must have good knowledge and experience with industry leading Modeling tools such as ERWin, Infosphere Data Architect or any such equivalent toolset(s)

  • Good hands-on experience in working with relational databases (in creating DDLs and Access paths – DCL).

  • Experience and knowledge of data modelling in Big Data platforms such as Data Lake, Hadoop, Document dbs (Mongo Db, Cosmos etc)

  • Demonstrated superior competence in soft skills associated with core competencies such as documentation, communication, leadership, facilitation, team management & customer relationships.

  • Ability to clearly communicate outcomes, technical artifacts, and status to senior management team.

  • Highly skilled in managing all aspects of all sizes and complexities of multiple projects simultaneously across the software development life cycle phases (SDLC)

  • Knowledge of Finance industry – especially Mortgage industry is a plus

  • Strong track record of interviewing business partners, setting and managing expectations in relation to deliverables and requirements

  • Solid understanding of Agile development methodologies and software project life cycle and associated methodologies

  • Experience with standard systems analysis tools and procedures

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and analytical skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to establish deep understanding of clients’ business issues

  • Excellent customer servicing skills

  • When required, be able to lead teams and implementing measures and processes

  • Proven ability to confirm testing objectives, verify requirements are testable and trace testability back to requirements
