The Corporate Tax Manager will support the tax team in all areas of income tax operations, including but not limited to tax provision, compliance, audits, and technical research.  The Tax Manager will work with the leadership team to identify and mitigate potential areas of risk, as well as support organizational-wide tax planning and strategies.  The ideal candidate is a team player who will build business relationships and will elevate the tax team by focusing on quality, accuracy, and efficiency.  The Corporate Tax Manager will report to the Assistant Vice President of Tax. The Mr. Cooper tax team currently follows the organization's home-centric model, where individual contributor work will be done remotely on a regular basis.  Time in-office will be on an as needed basis and will be dedicated to collaborations more suitable for in-person meetings.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with the quarterly and year-end GAAP financial statement preparation and maintain effective control procedures and documentation
  • Work with external audit firm to ensure sufficiency of tax information (and support thereof) in the financial statements
  • Support the tax team in its monthly tax forecast calculations and modeling
  • Manage projects and tasks related to federal and state tax return compliance, including audit controversy and notices
  • Assist with the team’s tax planning projects, including various federal and state tax credits
  • Identify opportunities for automation and develop process efficiencies by utilizing Alteryx, MS Apps and other available software tools
  • Work closely with other departments within the Company to ensure timely awareness of transactions and events that will affect filing obligations and tax positions
  • Assist with the Company’s Section 382 analysis and monitoring cumulative ownership shift
  • Support the Company in tax planning strategies and M&A activities
  • Maintain current knowledge of tax law changes and regulations and assisting with developing the Company’s tax positions in relation to such laws, regulations and pronouncements. 
  • Assist with special projects and all areas of the Company’s corporate tax function, as necessary

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • 6+ Years of experience or experience equivalent to an Experienced Tax Manager
  • 5+ Years of experience with ASC 740 Accounting for Income Taxes
  • Experience with federal and multi-state and local tax accounting for corporations and partnerships
  • Detail-oriented with demonstrated project management skills and ability to prioritize projects and tasks
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as the ability to work well with other team members and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Strong emotional intelligence, including interpersonal skill, social awareness, team player
  • Excellent research, analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Strong experience and skills with MS Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Masters in Taxation
  • CPA Certification
  • Experience with Onesource Tax Provision, Alteryx, MS Teams Applications
  • Financial services/mortgage banking experience
  • Hands on compliance experience in a big 4 accounting firm, corporate tax department or equivalent
